Well, I titled this blog as the life & style of “a 30 something mom” so I guess its fair to finally post about my life in my 30’s.
So far I have LOVED my 30’s. I was a bit nervous about the number at first. I think a lot of people are. But it is actually a really freeing age. I have a fantastic life and an amazing family. I am more confident in myself than ever before and I don’t have time for silly drama. It really has been amazing!
I have recently changed positions in my day job and am using a computer more than before. That, paired with my new blog life, I am very often sitting at a computer with that monitor glow staring back at me. No big deal though, right?
That’s what I thought until I kept getting these annoying headaches. Then, one night while watching a movie with the hubs, I just felt my eyes ache. Like, my eyeballs were actually sore! I may have panicked for a minute thinking something must be seriously wrong and that there MUST be some crazy thing happening in my body (I work at a hospital…I see crazy things… I then think crazy things!). The ache went away the next day but then would come back randomly throughout the week.
Then I remembered my husband last year. His complaints of headaches, of being tired after work and having sore eyes…which was shortly followed by him getting his first pair of glasses.
I have always wanted glasses. I may have even “cheated” on my eye exam once, saying that I couldn’t really see that line of letters (the wonderful optometrist proceeded to tell me that I have 1 better than 20/20 vision). But suddenly NEEDING glasses felt totally different!!
So I hauled myself over for an eye exam and got my very first prescription for reading glasses. The optometrist was sweet and made me feel better by saying that, if I wasn’t having any symptoms of tired eyes, they wouldn’t even recommend the prescription since it is so low, but that it will help with reading and all the computer work I am now doing.
Trying on glasses when you don’t need them is fun because there is no real commitment, but my goodness why is it so hard to choose glasses when you DO need them?
Of course I walked straight over to the brand named glasses. I mean, if I was going to wear them, I may as well take advantage of it and wear Tiffany, Michael Kors, or Gucci, right? After trying on several pairs (…in a few different locations!) it hit me. Why am I so desperately searching for a brand name and not what just looks good? I mean, I hate to admit it but there is no one yelling at me when I walk down the halls at work demanding “who are you wearing today?!”
I truly believe that, in fashion, it doesn’t matter what brand you are wearing. Pick a style that you love and find the piece you feels great and suits you. So I took my own advice for my glasses and tried on a whole bunch of other brands. I finally settled on a great pair by MEXX with a gorgeous neutral tortoise look in grey tones. And I grabbed a second pair of generic glasses so that I can use one at home and one at the office…or so I can change them based on my outfit (more so the second one!)
I love the fact that my glasses, though only really for reading, can be an accessory! There were SO many different styles and it was fun to try them all on. My face is long and narrow, so the rectangular frames with a bit of curve work for my face, but I was in love with all the cat eye frames as well. You can let your glasses blend in with a traditional look or make them your statement pieces with a great pop of colour and a bold farm style.
I love the glasses I chose and, now that the dust has settled, I am ok with needing them. It was bit of a chuckle to need them just months after turning 30, like karma was laughing at me, but I actually really like them!
